Royal Doulton Lambeth Art Deco bowl brush pot hares fur glaze 95 47 940 dated 1917 Florrie Jones. This was made during the first world war and it can be dated quite precisely. The Royal Doulton stamp of this form began in 1902, and lower case letters in a shield were used from c in 1902 to z in 1925. So this is dated to 1917. The FJ is likely to be Florrie Jones who was a senior assistant. It also has the numbers 95 and 47 and 940 on the base. It has an oriental Chinese feel to the shape. It has a super glaze with a gloss finish, it is difficult to photograph. The glaze is honey brown with cream, and the best example of this type that we have seen. |
