| English Stourbridge Tudor cut crystal glass bowl modernist. Cut glass is so often overlooked, but don't let this one get away from you. There are super intertwined circles plus grooves all the way around the rim and a fantastic star cut on the bottom which travels up the sides. This is cut by hand, with a very strong minimal design, it is impressive. It has a modernist style dating from the 1950's. When you look through the sides it has an amazing optical property. It is marked on the base, Tudor, Made in England. The glass company was founded in the 1920's as the Stourbridge Glass Company and changed its name in 1972 to Tudor Crystal after the cut glass range it produced, amongst other glass designs. This bowl is probably pre-1972 bearing the name of the glass range rather than the company. Lovely. |
