History

Established a decorating shop in 1866 producing fine enamelling. Established a glassworks in Petersdorf, Silesia in 1889. Numerous amalgamations post 1910. Eventually emerged as Graf Schaffgotschxsche Josephinenhutten GMBH. (Josephine arises from a factory). See encyclopedia.

Styles

1860 - 1890's- a wide variety of traditional - German glassware. Humpen vessels (straightsided beakers with slightly flaring base) enamelled sometimes with a cover.

Also mirror glass and table glass. Persian & Indian designs

Also glass which is enamelled covered by a wire netting bearing date '1616'.

Also glass blown into wire netting, usually widely spaced so the glass bulges into the gaps.

1898 - Cyprus glass opaque or very slightly translucent glass. Matt, coloured or iridescent surfaces with enamelled and gilt decoration. Decoration became more Jugenstil in style from traditional patterns. Abstract patterns & shapes.- Max Rade - ribbons, leaves, stars & simple shapes as border for flowers birds & animals.- Ludwig Sutterlin - floral or geometric styles

1900's - Cameo with floral styles.- silver overlay in floral patterns similar to Loetz & Zache. V. difficult to distinguish from Loetz. Weiner Werkstatte styles like art Deco with fine enamelling.
